Fuel up to Break Down Barriers

Red River Co-op's Fuel Good Day to provide critical equipment to Manitobans with disabilities

Fuel Good Day logo has white text. There is a smiley face graphic on the word "Good". A photohgraph of teenage boy in a bright blue shirt, with red hair and using a wheelchair, is imposed on top. He is smiling at the camera.

On Tuesday, September 16, community members can fill their tanks and fuel change at Red River Co-op's Fuel Good Day in support of Manitoba Possible. For every litre of gas pumped at all Red River Co-op Gas Bars, seven-cents will be donated — the highest amount in the fundraiser’s history — to support Manitobans with disabilities access critical assistive technology.

“We are incredibly grateful for Red River Co-op's commitment to creating a more inclusive and accessible community for all,” says Lindsey Cooke, CEO of Manitoba Possible. “Fuel Good Day showcases the incredible impact of community coming together, providing access to specialized equipment for Manitobans with disabilities.”

Manitoba Possible’s Assistive Technology program helps individuals of all ages access tools and equipment that support independence at home, at work, and in the community. This could mean a power-assist device for a manual wheelchair, allowing someone to head out on adventures, explore nature trails, or attend community events. It might be a custom-fitted helmet that accommodates cochlear implants so a child can play hockey with their friends. Or it could be a communication device that gives someone a voice—allowing them to express themselves, build relationships, and participate fully in everyday life. The Assistive Technology program is made possible thanks to the generous support of donors and community events like Red River Co-op’s Fuel Good Day.

"Fuel Good Day is one of the most powerful examples of how our members and communities come together to make a meaningful difference,” says Craig Gilpin, CEO of Red River Co-op. “This year, we're proud to support Manitoba Possible and help break down barriers for Manitobans living with disabilities. Every litre pumped is more than just fuel — it’s a step toward a more inclusive and accessible future."

Every year on Fuel Good Day, Co-ops across Western Canada donate a minimum of five-cents per litre of fuel purchased at participating gas bars to local charities. Since Fuel Good Day started in 2017, Red River Co-op has donated over $465,000 to local non-profit organizations. Last year, Red River Co-op’s Fuel Good Day raised $65,000 for Children’s Rehabilitation Foundation.
