Motorcycle Challenge Raises Funds for Manitoba Possible

On August 4th, Hoka Hey challenger, Henry Lecomte, started a 14-day motorcycle challenge across the United States in support of Manitobans with disabilities.

About The Challenge

Beginning in 2010 and every second year since then, The Hoka Hey Challenge welcomes participants on a long journey across the United States. This year, participants will travel long hours by motorcycle from Daytona Florida all the way to Homer Alaska. Many participants use the challenge as an opportunity to fundraise for a charitable organization of their choosing by collecting donations as they travel by motorcycle. This year, Manitoba Possible has been chosen as a recipient of Henry Lecomte’s Hoka Hey Challenge journey.

Hoka Hey is known for being one of the toughest motorcycle challenges in the world. Hoka Hey refers to the battle cry, Lakota warrior, Crazy Horse used in 1876, during The Battle of Little Bighorn. According to some sources, the Lakota Sioux phrase Hóka-héy translates to "a good day to die", a phrase used to incite courage in warriors before battle. Finishing the challenge requires great physical and mental strength, testing each participant’s endurance and commitment to their cause.

About Henry

Henry learned about the Hoka Hey Challenge from a friend and soon signed up to participate.

In 2022, Henry set off on his journey, which lasted 18 days, during which he covered a distance of 10,300 miles (16,576 km). He rode his bike for hours each day and slept by his bike each night. No hotels, motels, or bed and breakfasts. Participants are not allowed to use GPS and must rely on maps and verbal directions, making the journey a test of physical and mental strength. There are no flashy prizes or medals, and those who complete the challenge do so just to prove they can.

This time around, Henry's journey is about more than completing the challenge itself.

Why Choose Manitoba Possible?

When asked why Henry is choosing to support us during this ride, he said he has family and friends who have benefitted from Manitoba Possible’s programming. The donations collected from Henry’s ride will strengthen our ability to provide opportunities and resources for Manitobans with disabilities, allowing all Manitobans to realize what’s possible!
